Electricity distribution is a complex and challenging process. Distribution companies must constantly monitor the condition of their networks and perform maintenance to prevent outages. They also need to invest in new technologies that will help them ensure a reliable supply of electricity.
The digital twin of electricity distribution networks
The challenge was to create a solution to efficiently process spatial Lidar data related to the operation and maintenance of the power grid.
Slovak company OneCom, which has been developing solutions for utility companies for years, developed its own product that creates a digital twin of electricity distribution networks and brings together the available data into a single entity. It combines LiDAR data, orthophotos, photos, video from individual sections of the power grid. network and offers the operator to create tasks in the form of external orders based on the detected deficiencies and deliver them to the contractor in graphical form.
Significant acceleration of data processing using artificial intelligence
We brought together our team and OneCom to create in-house AI. We trained the system to process Lidar data, annotate and vectorise it into a human-readable form. It can also identify problem areas on power lines, such as vegetation encroaching on power line buffer zones or illegal structures.
The PoC task was to explore the possibilities of AI in terms of efficiency and automation. We are currently developing this collaborative model in an effort to implement it into sharp operation and to significantly enhance the Avitor tool. We also see its applicability for railway companies, road managers or water companies. Today, the AVITOR product is also available in other languages and is available to customers all over the world.
How it works
From 4 weeks to a few hours
Thanks to artificial intelligence, we have been able to significantly speed up data processing. What used to take 4 weeks is now processed in a few hours. We have named this unique product AVITOR. It has also been made available to railway companies, road managers and water companies. Today, AVITOR is also available in other languages and can be used by customers all over the world.
"What I appreciate about working with AstonITM is the high level of expertise and high commitment of the Lab team. I believe that through this collaboration we will take the Avitor product to the next level."
