We've partnered with NG Aviation to accelerate the digital transformation of airports. Aston ITM provided NG Aviation with its innovative AI LAB team, which develops specialized AI algorithms to digitize and optimize flight information for airports and pilots around the world.
Air travel is one of the key sectors of global transportation, handling more than 4.5 billion passengers annually, making it a leading industry in terms of both volume and growth rate. In addition to being an industry leader, it also has the distinction of being the safest way to travel in the world. Despite these achievements, the airline industry has been relatively slow to embrace digital transformation.
Problem: How to effectively digitalize airports
One of the biggest challenges facing the airline industry is the digitization of airports. Traditional digitization methods that use human labor are time-consuming and costly.
This conservatism prompted NG Aviation, a young Slovak start-up founded by three visionary enthusiasts, including the Frank siblings, to embark on a challenging mission. Their goal was to develop proprietary software to digitize and optimize flight information for airports and pilots around the world. A task of this magnitude required countless hours of GIS (Geographic Information System) and aviation experts analyzing satellite imagery, with a timeline that could span decades.
The Solution: Aston accelerates airport digitization with artificial intelligence
Our Innovation AI LAB team has started to develop specific AI algorithms (we are using multiple AIs for this project) designed to interpret all the features visible in satellite imagery of airports. In collaboration with NGA, we have created a unified team and today we are able to segment and vectorize initial objects such as guidance lines. We are working diligently on additional objects to gradually increase our ability to annotate and vectorize every single airport in the world.
The result: Redrawing an airport takes hours instead of 4 weeks.
We're speeding up the processing of input to the solution, which will reduce the time it takes to redraw an airport from 4 weeks to just a few hours.
Working with our AI LAB team, NG Aviation is able to segment and vectorize initial objects, such as guidance lines, in a matter of hours. This represents a significant acceleration compared to traditional methods that can take 4 weeks.
"For NG Aviation, working with Aston ITM is a great benefit. Their professional approach allows us to implement new technologies in such a sensitive area as aviation. The high quality of technical solutions, professional approach to delivery and meeting deadlines is very important for our industry and that is why Aston is a reliable partner for us."
